This book is a suspense novel titled June by Miranda Beverly-Whitmore. I will be starting this book in a few days. Right now I'm in the middle of a dystopian romance titled Landry Park.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
I just finished reading Lady Midnight by Cassandra Claire. It is the first book in the third shadowhunters series titled The Dark Artifices. Yes, yes I know she has a lot of shadow hunters books. But the thing is, she has such an addicting writing style that I'm always sad when I finish a series of hers. But anyway, on to the review.
I have to say that the love story in this book is more annoying than the love stories in her previous two series'. It's annoying to the point of distraction. Julian and Emma are adorable and perfect together, but throughout the first half of the book all they do is secretly obsess about each other.
Okay, love story aside, the book was great! Cassandra Clare managed to keep the villain secret until the very end battle. I do love it when I cannot predict a book's outcome!
So the next book comes out in April of 2017 and the first book of a companion series comes out the month prior. I can't wait!

Book to read this week!
Cassandra Claire has come out with her second Shadowhunters spin off called The Dark Artifices. This spin off will follow Emma Carstairs! If anyone has not read the original Shadowhunters series, The Mortal Instruments, I recommend reading it first for some background.
So anyway, the first book in this new series is titled Lady Midnight and this, my dear readers, is what I shall be reading next!

A Fine Imitation by Amber Brock
I received and read my first book sent to me from Blogging for Books! They sent the book, “A Fine Imitation” by Amber Brock, to me for free in exchange for an honest review.
I have to admit that when I first selected this book I did not have high expectations. The plot seemed rather basic to me. From the very first chapter I knew I was 100% wrong! This book was well informed, well written, and completely riveting.
First, I need to comment on the writing style of this book. I usually have a hard time with books that switch back and forth between the past and the present but the book is so well written it was an easy transition every time. I also found that both the story unfolding in the present, and the story unfolding from the past were equally engrossing. Amber Brock managed to move seamlessly between a 31 year old woman in 1923 and her life in 1913 during her senior year of college.
A Fine Imitation really touches on some difficult topics regarding social classes and social responsibilities surrounding America’s elite society of that time. It was a time when women were seen more as property or arm candy than an actual partner in life and marriages were still made for alliances rather than love. We also see how the air of exclusivity was, and still is in some cases, cultivated from an early age.
This book provides an in depth look at the emotional turmoil of Vera Bellingham as she tries to navigate her life of endless meaningless parties with friends whose company is tedious at best, a sham of a marriage, and an overbearing and morally lacking mother. When an artist is employed by her husband, Vera is reminded of how her life should have been. Vera slowly begins to see that she has never truly lived but has simply existed in a fine imitation of a life. The question now is, will she stay with Arthur in her gilded cage, or will she break free of that existence and finally truly find the love and happiness that she deserves in life?

A Kiss of Deception by Mary E Pearson review
A Kiss of Deception by Mary E Pearson starts as a traditional story of a princess is search of her freedom. In this instance, our princess is wanting her freedom to marry for love rather than alliance. The story takes a slight turn from the traditional when she runs away essentially leaving her groom at the alter. Enter the jilted prince and an assassin from a far away land and you have another slight veer from traditional.
The story written in this book is what kept me from putting it down and forgetting I even tried to read it. The story is different and, while some of it was predictable, some of it was surprisingly unpredictable for a love triangle.
Sadly the basic story is all this book had going for it. The author didn’t develop her characters well so you never truly felt anything for Lia one way or another. The author did well with describing places to a point. But more like she chose somewhere from real memory and put it on paper rather than drawing some from memory and some from her imagination. The writing is confusing and half the time it takes a few paragraphs to figure out who’s perspective you’ve jumped to and how far into the future she made you jump. I think it was this writing style that frustrated me the most. Frequently the author would skip ahead only to very slightly summarize anything from an hour to a full day that had passed. Usually the summarization was so vague I really didn’t even know what I was reading.
Alas, we have a major plot twist. Unfortunately the plot twist only took me by surprise because of the author’s terribly confusing writing style…or maybe she wrote like that on purpose. Maybe she wasn’t clever enough to create surprise in the story itself. And now I am being mean! I told myself I wouldn’t do this!
Ahem, okay. Let us continue. So during a long arduous journey (to where I will not name), we meet even more characters that we do not get to know very well and we pass a good amount of places that are too vague in description to get a good picture of. It was then that I started noticing that the culture in this land makes zero sense. Clothing being one of those cultural inconsistencies that actually do matter.
So in closing, I would give this book a single star if it weren’t for the mostly romantic ending. It would have been an amazing ending had the writing been better. Nevertheless , I feel that the ending earned the book an extra star leaving my final rating at 2 stars. I will be starting on the second book of the series, The Heart of Betrayal, tonight. I hope Mary E Pearson’s writing will improve a bit with this next book.

A Court of Thorns and Rose series by Sarah J Maas
Before I post next week's book, I just wanted to share a brief review of a couple books I read last week. I recommend reading these book immediately! They are a perfect mix of action and romance. If you've read them already, feel free to comment with your opinions of the books.
I was highly impressed with both of these books! Sarah J Maas has an ability to make her readers feel the emotions running through these books. A court of thorns and roses begins almost as a cinderella story. Stick it out though, this heroine proves herself amazingly strong- a force to be reckoned with.
This second book in a court of thornes and roses series is hard to review without giving anything away. The book immediately sets out to destroy everything you thought you knew from the first book. Again, the emotions conveyed are staggeringly real. This book focuses first on the aftermath of of what happened under the mountain. As our heroine begins to heal, with the help of a surprising hero, we slowing see the Feyre we came to love in the first book emerge along with a few new elements. Of course, in true Sarah J Maas style, we are left hanging at the edge of our seats waiting until the third book of the series to release in 2017.

Hi everyone! Welcome to my blog! My name is Marlo. In case you haven't guessed yet, I have a teeny tiny obsession with books. They are my mania if you will. I love them! I read all genres and on this blog you will find reviews from a good many genres. You will find, however, that I tend to get stuck on one genre for a few weeks before I will move on to another. (The current genre is fantasy in case you were wondering.)
